Relay

A couple of weeks ago, my daughter participated in a swim across Lake Tahoe - a distance of more than ten miles taking around four and a half hours. Wow, right? Well, yes, but what made it manageable was that she did this as part of a team, each of 6 women swimming 30 minute and then 10 minute segments. So, this seemingly super human feat became more like a fun day on a boat, each person swimming and resting.

This got me thinking about how many things in regular life can be like this. For example, I had set a goal to host a full moon fire every full moon for people including those in my Shaman family. However, timing last weekend made it impossible for me, so the fire for the group was held by someone else, giving them the opportunity to hold that sacred space. In addition, our allyu has started a weekly meeting. By spreading the work, we get to both learn and teach.

Likewise, after teaching every day since March 2020, I finally took a break for a week, knowing that if any person from my classes needed yoga or meditation, they could find a class taught by some other teacher.

Too many times in my own life, I have felt burdened by one kind of responsibility or another, most of them self imposed. I’m sure upon reflection, you can find the same in your life.

How would it be to relax your own sense of obligation and step aside to allow someone else to jump in? Perhaps there would be more fun and light for everyone.
