Circle of Light

I stopped at Whole Foods mid-afternoon yesterday for dinner ingredients and to step away from a writing project that I was stuck on. I rolled my cart into the store, heading for the leafy greens section of the produce department. As I was bagging a bunch of kale, I saw an old friend who also was a frequent guest artist for an arts course I taught at the University of Hartford.

“Khaiim!” I said, and he turned around, his beautiful smile lighting up his face.

“Angela! It’s been so long, how are you?”

We caught up, him sharing news of his latest work to launch an online talk radio show on creativity. “You were actually one of the people who came to mind when I started to envision this show,” he said. “You’re out there making it work as a creative.”

“You have no idea how much I needed to hear that today!” I said, feeling uplifted and grateful that our paths crossed once again – and at this moment in both our lives.

It is so easy to walk through life feeling the light and energy that others give us and forget that we do the same. Light flows both ways. It flows from others and it equally flows from us. How essential it is to remember that each one of us is a beacon, radiating our light to ignite others on their journey. This connectedness, this circle of energy, is not only what unites us, it’s what lifts us up along the way. It is what helps us to push aside whatever holds us back – fear, self-judgment, being stuck, and on – to live to our fullest potential.

Sono luce (I am light – and so are you!),
