One of the things that I observe time and time again is how many of us do not see our own gifts and talents. It came to light for me during my first trip down the Camino de Santiago, and, now that it is in my awareness, I notice it all the time.

Frankly, what I really see is that we all spend a lot of time putting ourselves down. I can give example after example of people saying , “Oh, I’m not very good at ____” You fill in the blank. Likely you even said it today. What is interesting about this, though, is that, almost uniformly, I then observe the person and learn that they are, in fact, very good at ____. They just don’t see it. I am guessing that if you are anything like me, you say this even more frequently to yourself.

In this space, I am not going to go into my thoughts about the many reasons why we put ourselves down and are unable to see our own goodness, but what I would love to suggest now is that you take this week and resolve to see your own talents, your own skills, your own genius, and, rather than dulling it down by saying or thinking that you are somehow less than, choose to put the shoulders back and confidently own your brightness. Of course, no one is perfect and in every element of our lives, we could always do better, but why focus on that? Focus on what you can do! Acknowledge how much you have learned and how far you have come! Remember that moving forward you will get even better, but consider that you might attract even more goodness if you own the talent that you already have.
