Camino - Our First Day as Pilgrims
We began our day with yoga outdoors - our backdrop an orange pre-dawn sky and migratory birds singing their morning song in a clutch of nearby trees. The word and our theme for today - our first official day as pilgrims - was courage. In yoga and our morning circle we heard readings and explored how we could summon courage in the moment and on the path - that the path would give us what we need and so would the courage of our group.
We then gathered with our guide, Jose who gave us our pilgrims credentials and also beautiful scallop shells harvested by his family on the shores of Spain after winter storms.
Three of our pilgrim group started the walk in Sarria for a bit of a longer distance and the rest of us took the bus with our guide Jose to A Serra. We were thrilled to begin, walking into beautiful, fog covered trails. We walked in small groups up and down the hills of the Camino.
The foggy weather was perfect for walking so we arrived quickly to a beautiful trail lunch prepared by Jose. Everyone was in great spirits as we chatted, stretched, then ate.
The second half of the day saw the sun slowly come out so that it was nice and warm for many of us to swim in the hotel pool.
Our evening gathering included the sharing of miracles and insights for the day - what joy! Together, we can do anything!
We all ate with other pilgrims in the cafes of Portomarin. We are fortified for a good sleep and anticipating tomorrow with excitement.
