I am having a rare bit of unscheduled, solitary time in Chicago which has allowed me to spend a lot of time walking (of course) and to contemplate what to write. One theme which I have revisited again and again this summer is the idea that in each moment, in each day, we have an opportunity for a new start This was the idea behind the poem I wrote in May, shared last week! I know that so many people have pithy quotes about this, and that it is hard to practice, but it is a truth. Any morning when you wake up you can make the choice to stay the course or to make a change.
Some of the shifts that you might be called to make might be simple. Maybe you are in a food rut, or you need to get outside more, perhaps do a tech fast, clear out a room. Of course, there are many changes that might be difficult to make - perhaps you need to change your career or your partner or even where you live - but right now, you can make the choice to take some baby steps in that direction. Perhaps in your spare time, you search the internet for new jobs, run through a career evaluation website or meditate and journal about moving forward. If you discern a longing or an emptiness in your life, maybe you need to take a longer pause such as a weekend or longer trip so that you can take the time to listen to the divine and your inner wisdom to chart a course.
Every day, I am reminded how precious life is - we are only given so many years, so many moments. If you feel dissatisfied with how yours is going, start today - make at least a small shift in the direction you would like to go.
