Changing weather

This year, I have been fortunate enough to travel to Spain on our Camino trip and then to California to visit my son, and last week was unseasonably warm for around here. Now, we are on the cusp of our first frost. I often struggle in the winter with the lower light and with the cold weather, so now I am forming a plan - how to stay light hearted when the weather makes it more challenging to go outside. I find that with the warm weather and longer days of the summer, a plan isn’t really necessary - outside is easy and the light is everywhere.

So, what am I doing?

  • We just lit our pilot lights in our gas stoves - the warming light of a fire is always good for the soul.

  • I am getting the batteries into the strings of lights I have running through my plants - I have had no need for them with the longer days, but when the sun sets early, they are fun to light.

  • I am committed to meditating at least 20 minutes a day. This, sometimes combined with pranayama, always combined with Reiki, is very enlightening for me.

  • I am intentionally walking outside, and will continue to do so even as it gets colder - I am fortunate to have plenty of warm clothes.

  • I am looking forward to our trip to Costa Rica - timed perfectly in February right when the winter has felt the longest for me.

If you, too, have issues with finding light in the darker months, you might consider making a plan like mine.
