Ebb and Flow

Deep peace of the running wave to you, of water flowing,
rising and falling,
sometimes advancing, sometimes receding. . .
May the stream of your life flow unimpeded!
Deep peace of the running wave to you!
— Celtic Prayer

One thing that I seem to always be teaching and learning about is the ebb and flow of life.  This might be equated to the rising and falling of waves, the in and out of tides, the hills and valleys of a walking path, or even the inbreath and the outbreath.

There is a Truth that life moves along in an ebb and a flow.  This is something that happens to everyone and it cannot be avoided.  There are highs and lows, some large and some small.

What brought me such deep gratitude this week in revisiting the topic is that this year for me started in a time of deep ebb.  After a number of difficult events in December including leaving an organization I had helped to grow, the death of a friend, and an illness in the family, my tide was rising again when I fell on the ice and was injured with a concussion.  In spite of the fact that I Know through the deepest levels of my being about the ebb and flow of life, I will confess that at the very bottom, it was nearly impossible for me to believe that there would be an upswing.  The mind being the mind, it wanted to create a story that perhaps I would be broken and down forever.

Through much practice, including connecting to nature, lots of yoga, and through receiving the gift of healing from some talented healers, I have once again found myself feeling back in the flow.  Yes, there are ups and downs, more like ocean waves, but the tide is back in.

I share this simply so you might reflect on your own life, and perhaps be encouraged if you, too, have found yourself in a time of low tide.
